Production of hydrogen, active zerovalent iron and ferroferric oxide octahedron by alkaline etching Al–Fe alloys

Hydrogen is becoming important clean energy while zerovalent iron (ZVI) and ferroferric oxide are of great interest to many applications including environmental remediation chemical catalysis. Here, we report production hydrogen, octahedron by etching Al–Fe alloys using NaOH solutions. The rate hydrogen generation increased with increasing concentration the alloy's particle size decreasing Fe concentration. Alkaline alloy particles 425–850 μm produced 19–53 ZVI particles, which had paralleled ravines 0.2–0.3 wide on surface possessed specific areas 30–70 m 2 /g. microscale was highly active for removal a model pollutant acid orange 7 from water. After 3–6 h ageing in alkaline solution, were transformed octahedral saturation magnetization 68.2 emu/g residual 13.2 coercive force 330 Oe. This study provides new approach facile synthesis along on-board alloys. • Hydrolysis produces zero valent (aZVI) particles. aZVI have outperforms conventional nano-ZVI Ageing hydrolysis solution generates 3 O 4 crystals.
